Our Projects
Browse information on our recent and past projects below. Find out more about what we get up to and who we work with.

01
Payangan Food Forest and Farmer Community
We have been working with farmers from Payangan, Desa Buahan and Singaperang village. The farmers work with their own families and through this project, have come together to gain a better understanding about overall farming systems and the important connection between farmer and consumer.
The farmers have worked well to create fruit forests. Although they endeavour to use natural farming methods, they felt tied to the use of synthetic fertiliser. By working alongside these farmers, we have been able to share permaculture knowledge and training relevant to their established food forest. We have also helped create a bridge to consumers; allowing them greater access to a wider market.
02
Kedisan Rice Farming
Alongside Petani Kedisan Mandiri, we have helped one another in planting rice. We have used organic and regenerative methods and the result has been a saving in time, effort and money. From a successful small project, we have grown and inspired more farmers to work together to create their own supportive farmers group.
Petani Kedisan Mandiri was started by Pak Putu Yoga who wanted to change his life and have good quality food for the family. He wanted to learn more about organic farming, especially for rice, a sacred food here in Bali.
Pak Putu Yoga's journey started in 2017 to create a story of success for organic rice by spreading the method and encouraging more farmers in his region to change their approach. Since then many farmers have joined him, to prove that organic is better; bringing life back into the soil.
The Petani Kedisan Mandiri group of farmers are well known and have expanded the project to the 2 neighbouring villages.

03
Bekandze Farm Learning Centre
In the first half of 2024, Emas Hitam Indonesia was invited by Bekandze Farm Learning Centre to deliver regenerative farming training to local farmers. Over 12 sessions, we delivered practical skills and training at the Bekandze organic farm site and training centre, to farmers from the surrounding area, in permaculture and regenerative farming.
Bekandze Farm is dedicated to local people who want to learn about permaculture and organic farming methods. It is a learning centre and pilot project, running a functional and practical organic garden and demonstration site whilst also offering training for school students, University students and local farmers.
The training aims to promote a vision of a more sustainable future for farmers and their communities, through the use of permaculture techniques.
04
Mari Berkebun Next
Mari Berkebun Next was born from the success of Mari Berkebun in 2020. MBN delivered two models: Community Gardens and Rice Farming. The Community Gardens model involved site assessments and training on agroecology and permaculture theory as well as practical sessions on permaculture design and its implementation. We worked in
-
GIANYAR with PANTI ASUHAN YAPPENATIM & ORIGIN OF HEARTS
-
BUKIT with FOODBANKCO & RAGAM FOUNDATION
-
NUSA PENIDA with BALICOOP
The Rice Farming model involved site assessments, meetings with farmers/families, training sessions (healthy soil, soil regeneration, natural fertilizers, SRI system), the creation of a Kelompok Tani (farmers community), as well as the development to sell the produce using EHI’s network and credibility.
In this project we worked in Subak Telaga, Desa Mas, Ubud with the Padi Mas Farmers Community.
